St. Basil's, Red Square, MoscowIn the Cold War era, Moscow was known as the "Lion's Den" by Western nations. With a posh underground rail network and large green parks , the metropolis that awaits visitors is much different than the staunchy, backwards city it was made out to be.
Although the wide open parks and intricately carved architecture of Moscow have been a part of the city's design for generations, much has changed since the fall of communism. Once the scene of communist rallies, Moscow's Red Square is now home to a strip of upscale shops and restaurants. Of course, The Kremlin and St. Basil's still stand proud along the square's borders. Visitors to Gorky Park will find a variety of amusement park rides, cotton candy and paddleboats. Still an elegant tradition the Russian ballet is a moving event.
