Caribbean town from the waterPuerto Rico maintains a rich Spanish heritage that is evident in the architecture and culture of today. The introduction of many modern amenities has yet to detract from the resplendant Spanish Old World charm present in many of Puerto Rico's cities and towns.
Puerto Rico's capital city, modern San Juan, is ironically enough, the 2nd oldest city in the Americas and Old San Juan reflects this in its crumbling facades, beautifully restored fort complex and Old World charm. Ponce, Puerto Rico's second biggest city, has been immaculately preserved. North of San Juan, the El Yunque offers incredible jungle trekking. On the west side of the island, Rio Camuy Cave has a 400 ft. sinkhole and one of the largest underground rivers in the world. The beaches on the west side of the island have excellent surfing and snorkeling. Scuba diving is wonderful in the clear waters near Vieques and Culebra Islands. Puerto Rico's amazing natural beauty and architecture have made it a shoe-in on the "Favorites" list in the menu bar above.
