| The historic district of Old San Juan is ripe with Old
World Charm. Stroll its cobblestone streets and ancient buildings dripping
with balconies full of geraniums and feel as if you've taken a step
back in time. San Juan also offers travelers clean strips of white sand
and a vibrant nightlife with casinos and clubs. Puerto Rico's west coast is a surfer's paradise with point breaks and cheap accommodations. For adventurous types, nearby Rio Camuy Cave Park offers caving, body rafting and rapelling adventures. On the south coast, Phosphorescent Bay offers tourists the change to swim in the glow of phosphorescent creatures that light up the night waters or take a kayak tour of the surrounding mangrove habitats. A similar bay exists on the off-shore island of Vieques, which offers a slower pace of life and excellent snorkeling and scuba diving, along with its sister island of Culebra. A bit more off-the-beaten-path, Mona Island, to the south of Puerto Rico, also offers incredible diving opportunities with camping accommodations on the semi-deserted island. |
