Caribbean town from the waterDue to its geographical orientation and historical dependence on the ocean, many of the Caribbean's most popular activites are in the water. However, many of the Caribbean islands host incredible tropical forests that supply plenty of land activities. By far the most popular activity in the Caribbean is viewing the underwater world surrounding the islands.
Snorkeling provides tourists the opportunity to immerse themselves in the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea while viewing reefs teeming with fish and other sea creatures. Scuba diving gives visitors a closer look at the sea life. Many of the area's resorts offer scuba diving vacation packages as well as certification classes. Resort dives offer new comers to the sport a chance to test it out before commiting to a class schedule. For children or others that are worried about the weight of the scuba equipment, Snuba offers a mix of scuba and snorkeling. Snuba participants can swim along the ocean floor with only the regulator and snorkeling equipment while the rest of their gear is housed on a raft on the surface above. Other water activities include sailing and yachting, surfing, and more.
Many of the islands interiors offer exquisite tropical scenery perfect for hiking and relaxing. Many of these areas host old plantation houses that are now restored inns offering unique accommodation and dining options. Many islands also offer unique canopy tours, interior camping, spelunking and more.
