Zuppardi’s Apizza, Connecticut
January 23, 2012
Like Chicago and New York, West Haven, Connecticut has a long-standing pizza tradition and a style all its own. New Haven apizza (pronounced “ah-beetz” back in the day) is a thin-crust pizza with a slightly charred bottom, just the way they make it at Zuppardi’s Apizza, The Destination Guide’s Best Pizza in Connecticut. Founded by Domenic and Angelina Zuppardi in 1935, Zuppardi’s remains a family-run operation focusing almost exclusively on pizza. House favorites include the homemade sausage and fresh clam. Check them out for yourself at http://www.zuppardisapizza.com/.

Been going to Zuppardi’s since I was a kid and the quality has never changed! it’s always been the best apizza around! When you walk in the door, its great to see all the family members that I’ve seen for years! My favorite- the sausage, fresh clam pies and mozz meatball and eggplant white! Love it!

When I think of Zuppardi’s Apizza, my mouth starts to water. For me and my family it is by far the best pizza in the world. We all get together and go to Zupp’s for dinner. Escarole and beans with bacon is a must so is homemade sausage, fresh clams, broccoli rabe and on and on. It also helps that the original owners daughters still run the restaurant and are always there working their tushes off. Our family is their family and they make you feel welcome all the time.

New Haven County has really terrific pizza! The best by far is Zuppardi’s Apizza in West Haven. I’ve been going to Zuppardi’s for more than 20 years! I’ve since moved to another town BUT will travel to West Haven for Zuppardi’s pizza weekly! Oh and I highly suggest you try the fresh tomato and basil! It’s fantastic! You get family friendly service and a great nostalgic pizza experience!

New Haven has great pizza, but the best is Zuppardi’s in West Haven. As good today as it was more than 50 years ago when I first starting going there with my family! Worth the drive from Hamden!

I have been eating at Zuppardi’s since I can remember. I grew up on it and even use to even sweep the floor as a kid at the Sundae Corner Ice Cream Parlor they owned for years at the corner of Main St. and Union Ave. It makes you feel like family while you are there eating and like at the Cheers Bar theme song says its a place where everyone knows your name. Keep up the great pizza and here’s to another 76 years.
